Jackie and Paul Get Married!

When Jackie asked me to photograph her special day I was more than just a little bit excited.

I love weddings.

I love weddings because I adore people in love.  I love seeing how they look at each other - whether it's a new couple, a couple getting married, a couple with a kid or two (or more), or a couple that has been together 'forever'.  When that love can be seen in the way they interact with each other, and the way they look at each other, it is a magnificent thing.

Jackie and Paul share that look - and I am so happy for them I could cry.  In fact, I spent most of their wedding trying not to cry so I would be able to see what I was photographing.  HA!

Jackie envisioned her sweet backyard wedding and I think she definitely pulled it off!

The tables were layered with lace tablecloths and doilies in shades of white and cream over neutral tablecloths.  The glasses and vases were thrift store finds in white, blue, and green.  The flowers (hydrangeas, roses, and Queen Anne's lace) were bought and picked locally and put together by the bride and family.

The Kippahs were inscribed with Jackie and Paul's names and wedding information.

They have a gorgeous plum tree in their backyard that produced delicious plums that they used to create little gift bags for all their guests to take home.

A family friend created and painted their cake toppers and the ring bearers box, and a family member baked their cupcakes (which, by the way, were delicious!)

All these details were so perfect and lovely.  I adored every single bit of it and a lot was stored away for when I get to help my daughter plan her wedding.  My daughter was my second shooter/assistant for the day and she was in awe about everything as well.

Gloves = the perfect finishing touch.

I am a huge fan of hand holding.

After the ceremony, the bride and groom had some time to their selves, which I think was a brilliant idea.  Every bride and groom should schedule this break - it might be the only one they get.  Then I went with them to a local park a few blocks away so we could get a few photos of just them.  Well, as long as you don't count the crowd of kids that were interested in seeing the beautiful bride, or the two women on a walk that stopped and asked to get a photo with the bride and groom.

 See, they share "The Love".

This may be my most favorite shot of the day.

I love the symbolism of this one - the older couple (whom I imagine have been married for decades) and the newly married, young couple walking side by side

I told you I love hand holding, right?

Back to the reception for dinner and dancing!

Before we knew it, it was time to send the newly weds off on their honeymoon, and the start of their lives together.

Congratulations Jackie and Paul!

Your wedding was truly beautiful and I am so thankful I got to capture the love you share.

I hope you have many happy years together!

First Birthday Twin Cake Smash

I can be the Queen of Procrastination sometimes - and I was here.  I got to do this shoot a month ago and I'm finally sitting down to blog about it.  Shame shame.

I am so glad that my first cake smash photo shoot was with my friends' twin 1 year olds.  It has been a great year watching them grow.  It went by so fast for me, I can't imagine how fast it went for her and her husband!

But that's what babies do.  They grow faster than we can imagine and before we know it we have a kindergartener....a middle schooler....a high schooler (guess which one I have this year!).

Since I was lucky enough to also photograph this darling duo's 1st birthday party, I had access to the leftover decorations from that party and used it in their backdrop design.  I wish I had lowered the streamers, but I had placed them high to keep babies from tearing them down - an unfounded fear. I'm sure the next cake smash shoot I do the baby will want to have nothing to do with the cake and everything to do with the decorations...

I made the cupcakes - a carrot cupcake with spiced cream cheese frosting - and they loved them, but probably the frosting more than the cupcake.  Frosting just squishes between the fingers so nicely.  Baby boy was very free with his grins at me, but baby girl made me work for it - but goodness were her grins worth that work.  Look at that cheeky baby grin!

Baby and family photo shoot

Saturday I got to meet an adorable baby and her family.

3-month-old babies might be my favorite aged babies. Maybe.

Mom brought this rocking chair and I love it so much. I want one just like it.  She said she found it at a garage sale.  It looks like I need to go garage saling.

I am in love with this sweet family shot. I love how they are looking at each other; you can feel the love.

Such a happy baby.

Adoring Grandparents.  I actually get to work my other job with Grandma, and she is a great coworker.  One of the best coworkers.

Baby wasn't too happy about tummy time pictures and she rolled over (for the first time) trying to get out of it. I wish I had gotten that in images for them, but unfortunately I didn't.

Frilly bows and poofy skirts are the best.

And I can't wait for the family to see the rest of these photos.  I hope they love them as much as I do.

We enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Dawson Creek park in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Location scouting

My daughter went with me this evening for a little location scouting for an upcoming session with a lovely woman who also happens to be my mother-in-law.  I'm really glad that this site worked for what I'm looking for and I'm excited for this shoot.

The site will not only work for mom-in-laws portraits, but for anyone else, especially in the late afternoon/evening with this lovely light - backlit images or otherwise.
